Chair Airlines is Switzerland's boutique holiday airline, operating from Zurich Airport and Basel to leisure destinations across the Mediterranean, Southeastern Europe, North Africa, and the Red Sea. With a fleet of four Airbus narrowbody aircraft serving approximately 20 destinations, Chair is a small but focused carrier — formerly known as Germania Flug, rebranded in 2019 and now owned by Albex Aviation and Enter Air.
If your Chair Airlines flight was delayed, cancelled, or you were denied boarding, you have strong legal protections. Chair Airlines is registered in Switzerland, and EC 261 applies through Switzerland's bilateral air transport agreement with the EU.
This means Chair Airlines compensation follows the same rules as any EU carrier. And Switzerland's extraordinary 10-year statute of limitations gives you the longest claiming window in Europe.
This guide explains Chair Airlines claim compensation, the Chair Airlines delay compensation process, and how FlyPayout handles the case for you.
Chair Airlines is registered in Switzerland. Through the EU-Switzerland bilateral air transport agreement, EC 261 applies:
Both-direction coverage. All Chair Airlines flights are covered by EC 261. A Chair flight from Antalya to Zurich is covered. A Chair flight from Zurich to Hurghada is covered.
10-year statute of limitations. Swiss law provides the longest limitation period in Europe — 10 years. Flights from 2016 onwards may still be claimable.
Leisure routes and higher disruption risk. Chair operates to peak holiday destinations during peak seasons.
Summer Mediterranean routes and winter Red Sea routes face congestion, weather disruptions, and tight scheduling — all of which increase the likelihood of delays and cancellations.
Standard EC 261 amounts apply:
Here are examples on Chair Airlines routes:
Chair's Mediterranean and Red Sea routes frequently fall into the €400 band, with some Egyptian routes reaching the €600 maximum.
If your Chair Airlines flight arrives at the final destination 3 or more hours late, you're entitled to Chair Airlines flight delay compensation. The delay is measured at arrival (when doors open).
If Chair cancels your flight and notifies you less than 14 days before departure, you're entitled to Chair Airlines flight cancellation compensation. You also have the right to choose between a full refund and rebooking.
If Chair involuntarily denies you boarding due to overbooking, compensation must be paid immediately.
Chair Airlines is a small airline company with limited claims-handling infrastructure compared to major airlines:
Small fleet, cascading disruptions. With only four aircraft, any single disruption — a technical fault, a pilot availability issue, or a crew problem — can cascade across multiple flights. Chair's compact fleet means there are fewer backup airplanes available when something goes wrong.
Extraordinary circumstances defense. Chair invokes extraordinary circumstances to reject claims. Mediterranean and Red Sea weather (thunderstorms, sandstorms) can be extraordinary. A strike by air traffic control or baggage handlers may also qualify depending on the event. Technical faults and crew issues are not extraordinary — the airline company remains responsible for those disruptions, and flight cancellations or delays caused by them are fully claimable.
Seasonal intensity. Chair operates most intensively during peak summer and winter holiday seasons. Disruptions during these periods affect the highest volumes of travelers waiting at the arrival airport.
Regardless of the cause, Chair must provide:
Passengers should retain all travel documents and receipts for luggage storage, transport, and meals.
If Chair fails to arrange overnight accommodation, you can seek reimbursement for those costs under EU regulation.
Switzerland's 10-year limitation means even very old Chair Airlines claim compensation cases may still be viable. FlyPayout assesses the optimal jurisdiction.

Chair Airlines delay compensation is €250, €400, or €600 depending on distance. Most Mediterranean routes from Zurich qualify for €400. Red Sea routes (Hurghada, Marsa Alam) may reach €400 or €600.
Yes. Chair operates both scheduled and charter services. EC 261 applies equally to both. Chair Airlines flight compensation covers any qualifying disruption regardless of whether the flight was scheduled or chartered.
In Switzerland, the limitation period is 10 years — the longest in Europe. Chair Airlines claim compensation for flights from 2016 onwards may still be viable.
Yes. Basel is Chair Airlines' secondary base. All departures from Basel are covered by EC 261. Chair Airlines flight delay compensation applies regardless of the departure airport.
Yes. If Chair cancels a seasonal route with less than 14 days' notice, Chair Airlines flight cancellation compensation applies. The same €250–€600 amounts apply.
Keep your boarding pass, flight ticket or booking confirmation, and any email notifications you received from Chair Airlines regarding the disruption. A valid passport or government-issued ID is required to confirm your identity as the ticketed passenger.
If you checked baggage, retain the baggage tag receipt. Chair Airlines service includes a free baggage allowance of 20 kg for Economy Class — the permitted maximum for a standard checked item. Any excess baggage fees paid are documented on your booking confirmation.
To submit a claim, FlyPayout only needs your flight details. You do not need to address the airline directly or send correspondence to their claims department yourself. If you were flying with children or booked through a travel agency, include their travel documents and confirmation as well.
FlyPayout will advise on availability of your claim once you submit your flight details. You do not need to check in to the claims process yourself — we handle all communication with the airline on your behalf.
Yes. EU regulation covers the arrival time at your final destination. If a Chair Airlines flight caused you to miss a connecting flight or arrive late due to a transfer, the scheduled time and actual arrival times at the final destination are what matter.
Your seat class or fare type does not affect your right to claim. If the delay at landing exceeded three hours, the standard compensation amounts apply.
Chair Airlines operates from Zurich and Basel to holiday destinations across the Mediterranean and beyond. Switzerland's 10-year limitation period means even old disruptions may still qualify.
