Ajet (formerly AnadoluJet) is Turkish Airlines' low-cost subsidiary, relaunched as an independent airline on 31 March 2024. Based at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) with a secondary hub at Ankara Esenboğa, Ajet operates a fleet of approximately 85 aircraft serving over 40 domestic and international flights across 34 countries — spanning Europe, the Western Balkans, the Middle East, North Africa, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. In July 2025, Ajet set a record by carrying more than 2.5 million passengers in a single month.

If your Ajet flight was disrupted, your right to compensation varies depending on the departure airport. Ajet is registered in Turkey — not in the EU or ECAA. This means EC 261 and ECAA rules only apply when Ajet departs from an EU or ECAA airport. For flights departing from Turkey, the SHY-Passenger regulation provides similar protections.

This guide explains Ajet compensation, Ajet delay compensation rules under different regulations, and how FlyPayout handles Ajet claims. If your flight was delayed or cancelled, use the sections below to identify which regulation applies and what you can claim for your disruption.

When EC 261 / ECAA / SHY Applies to Ajet Flights

When Do You Qualify for Ajet Flight Delay Compensation?

Departures from EU/ECAA Airports

If your Ajet flight departs from an EU or ECAA airport and arrives at the final destination 3 or more hours late, you're entitled to Ajet flight delay compensation under EC 261 or ECAA rules. You may also be entitled to compensation if your flight is cancelled or if you are denied boarding.

Departures from Turkish Airports

If your Ajet flight departs from Turkey, SHY-Passenger applies. Ajet delay compensation under SHY kicks in at 2 hours for flights under 1,500 km and 3 hours for longer flights.

Cancellations

If Ajet cancels a flight departing from an EU/ECAA airport and notifies you less than 14 days before the departure date, Ajet cancelled flight compensation applies. Under SHY-Passenger, similar cancellation protections exist for Turkish departures. You can be eligible for compensation if the delay or cancellation was not caused by extraordinary circumstances.

Ajet Delay Compensation: How the Airline Handles Claims

Ajet is a newly independent airline (since March 2024) built from Turkish Airlines' AnadoluJet brand:

New airline, developing processes. Ajet only received its independent AOC in January 2024. Claims-handling infrastructure may be less established than at longer-running carriers.

Turkish Airlines codeshare. Ajet maintains codeshare agreements with Turkish Airlines. If you booked through Turkish Airlines but Ajet operated the flight (flight number VF instead of TK), Ajet is the responsible carrier for your reservation and any compensation claim.

Budget carrier dynamics. As a low-cost carrier, Ajet may offer vouchers instead of cash. Under both EC 261 and SHY-Passenger, you have the right to insist on cash. The compensation is set by regulation and is not at the airline's discretion.

Extraordinary circumstances. Ajet is not required to pay compensation if the delay or cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances outside its control — such as an air traffic control strike, severe weather, or a security incident. It is important to be aware that technical faults and crew shortages are not considered extraordinary under the regulation, and do not exempt the airline from its obligations. If your flight was disrupted due to one of these internal causes, the compensation is likely to be owed.

Ajet Refund: Your Options

When Ajet cancels a flight departing from an EU/ECAA airport or delays it by 5+ hours, you need to choose one of the following options. You can request a refund or rebooking — the choice is yours:

Full cash refund within 7 days.

Rebooking on the next available flight.

Rebooking at a later date of your choosing.

Ajet must process a refund for your ticket in the original form of payment. To get the cash refund rather than a voucher, make your preference clear in writing when you submit the request.

What Ajet Must Provide During Disruptions

For flights departing from EU/ECAA airports, regardless of the cause, all the following duty-of-care entitlements apply:

Delay threshold

What you're entitled to

2+ hours (flights up to 1,500 km)

Meals, refreshments, 2 phone calls or emails

3+ hours (flights 1,500–3,500 km)

Meals, refreshments, 2 phone calls or emails

4+ hours (flights over 3,500 km)

Meals, refreshments, 2 phone calls or emails

Overnight delay

Hotel accommodation + transport to/from hotel

5+ hours

Right to abandon the journey + full refund

These entitlements apply regardless of whether the disruption was caused by the airline or by external factors. If Ajet fails to provide care on your flight, you can claim reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses separately from your compensation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ajet Compensation

Can I get Ajet delay compensation for a flight from Istanbul?

For Istanbul departures, EC 261 does not apply. However, Turkey's SHY-Passenger regulation provides compensation for delays — Ajet delay compensation under SHY mirrors EC 261 amounts for international flights, with a lower 2-hour threshold for short flights.

Does Ajet flight delay compensation apply to flights from Sarajevo or Skopje?

Yes. Sarajevo and Skopje are in ECAA countries. ECAA rules cover all Ajet departures from these airports. Ajet flight delay compensation for a Sarajevo–Istanbul or Skopje–Istanbul flight is €250.

What is the difference between Ajet and AnadoluJet?

Ajet is the rebranded successor to AnadoluJet, which operated as a Turkish Airlines sub-brand from 2008 to 2024. On 31 March 2024, AnadoluJet was relaunched as Ajet — an independent airline with its own AOC, IATA code (VF), and commercial identity. Claims for AnadoluJet flights before March 2024 may be filed against Turkish Airlines; claims for Ajet flights after that date go to Ajet.

Does Ajet flight compensation apply to Turkish Airlines codeshare flights?

If Ajet operated the flight (VF flight number), Ajet is responsible. If Turkish Airlines operated the flight (TK flight number), Turkish Airlines is responsible. Ajet flight compensation applies only when Ajet is the operating carrier.

Can I get an Ajet refund instead of vouchers?

Yes. Under EC 261 and SHY-Passenger, you have the right to a full cash Ajet refund for cancelled flights. Ajet cannot force vouchers or credit. If the compensation is denied by the airline, FlyPayout can pursue the case on your behalf.

Does Ajet cancelled flight compensation apply to German departures?

Yes. Germany is an EU member state. All Ajet departures from German airports (Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Cologne) are covered by EC 261. Ajet cancelled flight compensation for these routes follows standard EC 261 rules.
